Vietnam Visa & Entry Guidance for Travelers
Licensed Vietnam Inbound Tour Operator | PATA Member | TripAdvisor Reviews | Local Offices in Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City
Planning a trip to Vietnam starts with understanding the entry requirements that apply to you.
Depending on your nationality, length of stay and travel plans, you may be eligible for visa-free entry or may need to apply for a Vietnam eVisa before traveling.
AFS Travel is a licensed Vietnam inbound tour operator and PATA member. Our Vietnam visa guidance helps inbound travelers understand entry requirements and prepare for their journey alongside private, tailor-made trip planning.
Important: AFS Travel Vietnam is not a government website and does not issue visas. Visa approval is subject to the Vietnam immigration authority. We provide general visa and entry guidance for inbound travelers planning a Vietnam trip.

Do I Need a Visa for Vietnam?
Vietnam’s entry requirements depend on your nationality, passport type, intended length of stay and travel plans.
Some travelers may qualify for visa-free entry, while others may need a Vietnam eVisa before traveling.
Citizens of a number of European countries currently qualify for visa-free stays of up to 45 days, subject to the conditions of the applicable visa exemption policy.
Because eligible nationalities, permitted stay periods and entry conditions can change, travelers should always check the latest information from the official Vietnamese authorities before traveling.
If your planned stay is longer than the visa-free period available to your nationality, or if you do not qualify for visa exemption, a Vietnam eVisa may be an appropriate option.
Vietnam eVisa Guidance
The Vietnam eVisa is an electronic visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
Vietnam eVisas may currently be issued for single or multiple entry for an approved period of up to 90 days. The exact validity dates are shown on the approved eVisa and should be checked carefully before traveling.
Travelers can apply directly through the official Vietnam eVisa portal.
Before applying, check:
- Whether you need a visa based on your nationality and intended stay
- That your passport meets the current validity requirements
- Your intended arrival and departure dates
- Your planned entry and exit points in Vietnam
- That all personal and passport information is entered exactly as shown in your passport
Processing requirements can change, so we recommend applying well in advance rather than leaving your visa preparation until shortly before departure.
How to Apply and What to Prepare
The eVisa application is completed online through the official Vietnam Immigration Department system.
You will generally need to prepare:
- A clear image of your passport information page
- A suitable recent portrait photograph
- Your personal and passport information
- Your intended travel dates
- Your planned entry and exit information
- An email address for application communication

The official process generally involves completing the online application, uploading the required documents, paying the applicable government visa fee through the official payment system and checking the application result online.
Make sure all information is accurate before submitting. Incorrect or incomplete information may affect the application.
We recommend applying directly through the official Vietnam Immigration Department eVisa portal for the latest requirements, processing information and government fees.
Preparing for Entry into Vietnam
Once your visa or visa-free eligibility is confirmed, a few additional checks can help make your arrival smoother.
Before departure:
- Keep a printed or digital copy of your approved eVisa if you are traveling with one
- Check that the information on your eVisa matches your passport
- Check that your passport meets the latest entry requirements
- Confirm that your intended entry point is suitable for your visa or entry arrangement
- Keep your return or onward travel information available in case it is requested by your airline or immigration authorities
- Recheck the latest Vietnam entry requirements close to your travel date
Entry rules can be updated, so official Vietnamese government sources should always be the final reference for visa and immigration requirements.
